When the highly respected, mild-mannered editor-turned-director Alan Smithee sets out to make a good film on his directorial debut, he begins a sometimes disturbing and always bizarre film industry odyssey.
When he is confronted with profound disappointment, he decides extreme measures are necssary. Soon, the greatest vanishing act in the history of the movies leads to the biggest scandal since Heidi Fleiss. And Alan Smithee becomes an unexpected hero for anyone who has ever had their work infringed upon by the selfish whims of others.
An Alan Smithee Film -- Burn Hollywood Burn satirizes the making of a big budget action-adventure Hollywood movie from many points of view, as a naive film director seeks to do his best while the cost for the project surpasses $20 million. Smithee's particular misfortune is his name. He can't take his name off the finished movie because it happens to be the same as the pseudonym specified by the Director's Guild for any director who doesn't want credit for his work.
