Kalushi

Also known as ’Kalushi: The Story of Solomon Mahlangu’, this is based on the life story of Solomon Kalushi Mahlangu. Set during the apartheid years after 1976, we follow events as Solomon, then a a 19-year-old hawker from the streets of Mamelodi, is brutally beaten by the police, and flees into exile to join the liberation movement. After military training in Angola, he returns to South Africa with a friend, who ends up shooting two innocent people in downtown Johannesburg. Kalushi finds himself on trial for murder, based on the ’common purpose’ doctrine. The State is seeking the death penalty. The film is in English.
