Passion

Why do you love your mother more than me? Set in England, 1914, this is a look at a moment in the life of Percy Grainger, the famous Australian pianist and composer. He is something of an eccentric multi-talented genius, way ahead of his time. He has an almost erotic relationship with his mother. After being rebuffed by the fiancee of his best friend, he develops a relationship with one of his pupils. This leads to a semi-three-way setup between him, her and his mother. He is into S-&-M, which his mother does not approve of, causing conflict in their relationship. Expect some great music, and some philosophy about music.

The Moviesite Fan Club comments

Ian Douglas: Interesting costume drama about an interesting man. The film shows how a domineering mother can influence the paths her children follow through life, and how mistreatment in childhood can express itself as perversions in later life. It also contrasts the physical abuse of S&M with the violence of war. Along the way, it throws in lots of questions about what is *good* music.
