Autumn 1942, South of France. In dangerous defiance of the Nazi occupation of France, Maria Von Gall organises the flight of Jews using funds deposited in Swiss bank accounts. Sensing her operation is about to be discovered and that she will be captured, she trains her brilliant 11-year-old son Thomas in survival tactics and entrusts his prodigious memory with a secret list — the bank access codes to 740 million Marks. Thomas becomes the target of ruthless professor Gregor Laemmle, a Nazi collaborator who will do anything to gain possession of the list.
