The Favourite

The Favourite
‘The Favourite’ arrives as the favourite for the upcoming BAFTA awards, having already won a Golden Globe, and with 78 wins and 228 nominations at the time of writing. It is set in early 18th century England, when England is at war with the French. A frail Queen Anne occupies the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah governs the country in her stead while tending to Anne’s ill health and mercurial temper. When a new servant Abigail arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah. Sarah takes Abigail under her wing and Abigail sees a chance at a return to her aristocratic roots. As the politics of war become quite time consuming for Sarah, Abigail steps into the breach to fill in as the Queen’s companion. Their burgeoning friendship gives her a chance to fulfil her ambitions and she will not let woman, man, or politics stand in her way.

Alex Isaacs quote iconI know a lot of people might not get this film. It might be seen as pretentious or ludicrous or any manner of negative things, but to me it is a must-see. If you love movies and seeing a cast and crew firing on all cylinders, then go watch this movie. It is worth more than the price of admission.
