Youth in Revolt

Every ''Revolution'' Needs A Leader

Youth in Revolt
A teenage guy lives in a trailer park. His parents are divorced and both unashamedly sexually active with new partners. Our hero is desperate to lose his virginity, and as luck (or plotlines) will have it, a sweet and naughty young lady comes into his life. However he just fails to turn her on, so he invents an alter-ego, a suave French playboy type, to do the seduction work that he himself is unable to. Meanwhile his attempts at romance have a horrible habit of going disasterously wrong...

Adam Nayman quote iconMiguel Arteta’s extra-slimy piece of Juno afterbirth has the distinction of being only the second-best film to feature Michael Cera as a character named Nick.

Rolling Stone
Peter Travers quote iconYouth in Revolt, with Michael Cera in his best performance yet, is a small miracle.

ScreenIt
C. Fuchs quote iconIf not for goofy charm that Cera effortlessly exudes and pours over his character (and thus draws viewers to him), this might have been a chore for many viewers to sit through, especially since the raunchy material associated with a teen's quest to lose his virginity is a well-worn cinematic path.

Tomatometer quote icon It may not entirely do its source material justice, but Miguel Arteta's Youth in Revolt is a fun, funny comic romp that lets Michael Cera stretch a little and introduces filmgoers to a major find in Portia Doubleday.
