Departures

The gift of last memories

Departures
A classical musician loses his job, and moves with his wife back to his tiny village. Desperate for work, he accepts a job of fixing up dead people for their burial... making them look their best. As this is a very low-level job, he tries to keep it secret from his wife and friends, but the truth leaks out, and he has to deal with the consequences. Reviews have been mixed, and it appears that it won the Best Foreign Language Oscar as a result of a split vote for two other movies.
