Scoop

The perfect man. The perfect story. The perfect murder.

Scoop
Allen's second London-based movie is also a murder mystery, and even has the same star as Match Point. Our heroine is a recent journalism graduate, in London to interview a famous director. Instead, she loses it and has a one night stand, followed soon after by a meeting with a ghost while helping a magician with a trick. The ghost tells her a nobleman is a notorious serial killer. She decides to investigate (still after a scoop), and the magician tags along to help her. Naturally she starts falling for the murderer, while the conjuror switches into protective daddy mode. Reviews have been mixed, I suppose it depends on how much you like Allen.

Annette Bayne quote iconScoop is lighted-hearted and funny and will charm audiences with its clever dialogue and slightly off-the-wall plot.

Megan Kakora quote iconWoody Allen doesn't take himself too seriously in this romantic comedy/murder mystery, and neither should you. Enjoy it for its charm rather than highbrow humour.

ReelViews
James Berardinelli quote iconA blend of lackluster comedy and lazy plotting, the film feels a lot like bad Hitchcock.

Rolling Stone
Peter Travers quote iconScoop is no more than a beguiling trifle. But in the dog days of summer, it's a perk to wallow in inspired silliness.
