Stardust

This summer a star falls. The chase begins.

Stardust
Based on the popular graphic novel, this teenage fantasy epic is set in an imaginary England. A young couple sees a shooting star fall in a forbidden area. He agrees to retrieve it, for her hand in marriage. After entering the forbidden area, he discovers that the star has turned into a young woman. While he tries to persuade her to return with him, to satisfy his girlfriend, there are others who want the fallen star. These include a witch seeking eternal life, and several princes desperate to ascend the throne. Meanwhile, in true boy-meets-girl fashion, things develop between the star and her would-be rescuer...

What the Critics say

Cape Argus / The Star
Theresa Smith quote iconUltimately, the book is better, but the film's not bad at all.
10
Die Burger
Willem de Vries quote iconDit is sterk en eerlik, sonder om soetsappig te wees.
10
iAfrica.com
Nils van der Linden quote iconIt's overlong, encumbered with some dodgy effects, and completely lacking dragons — and yet, against all common sense, Stardust is quite simply magical.
15
Mail & Guardian
Shaun de Waal
14
The Citizen
Peter Feldman quote iconThere are dark moments which may trouble younger viewers, but the essence of Stardust is that it's an entertaining fantasy romance.
16
Sunday Times
Barry Ronge quote iconIn a genre characterised by the conventions of magic, witches and fantasy villains, Stardust manages to come up with bright ideas.
15
Chicago Sunday Times
Roger Ebert quote iconThe movie is not boring, just cluttered and not focused enough.
13
ReelViews
James Berardinelli quote iconFresh and welcome entertainment.
15
ScreenIt
quote iconI can say, however, that if anything, the film is certainly ambitious, and stuffs a great deal of material and characters into its slightly more than two hour running time. Some work better than others, and while most everything feels epic, magical, and/or fantastical, it doesn't all jell into a completely satisfying or believable whole.
