The Namesake

The Namesake
In some ways this is a Bollywood version of ''How the West Was Won'', with modern-day Indians playing the part of the European settlers conquering America. A young man emigrates to America, and later returns home to fetch an arranged wife. Back in America, they struggle to fit in and soon pop out two kids. The boy has an unfortunate name for America, and as he grows, it continues to haunt him. Later, as a young man himself, he becomes romantically involved with a rich white girl, which causes tensions with his family. The film follows this Indian family as they try to adjust to a totally different culture than their ancestors.
