Beat the Drum

This South African movie takes a look at the effect that AIDS is having on our population, both white and black. We follow the adventures of a young boy, who treks to Johannesburg from KwaZulu-Natal, after both his parents die of AIDS. Living on and off the street, sometimes with a kindly truck driver, he is determined to survive. Along the way, he experiences more of the havoc that AIDS is causing, before the movie ends on a brighter note. This film has won 29 international awards.
