The Gift

Set in a small Southern farming community, our heroine is a struggling single mom with three boys. Since her husband died a year ago, she has been giving ''readings'' (fortune telling) as a way of making money. This does not go over well with some of the religious townsfolk. Then the fiancé of the local school principal disappears, and her psychic abilities reveal where the body is. It happens to implicate a man who had been threatening her. However, all is not as simple as it seems...

Ian Douglas: For some reason, this film reminded me a lot of ''What Lies Beneath''. It starts off very slowly, and we wondered where the heck the plot was going. Then suddenly it switches into standard ''teen-thriller'' mode and things pick up. Don't let the host of well-known stars mislead you, all except Cate play minor roles, she alone is the centre of attraction. What bothered me the most was the perplexing use of ESP cards instead of the usual Tarot cards for the fortune-telling. Note that reviews have been mixed...

Francois van Vuuren (23): I'd like to agree with Ian Douglas, this movie is somehow ''partly'' copied from 'What lies beneath'.It's sort of dull but interesting..until the plot becomes self revealing. Why did Keanu take this role? This movie will be enjoyable to those who have not seen ''What lies beneath'',and ''Scream''.
