A Time for Drunken Horses

Set amongst the Kurdish population around the border between Iraq and Iran, we follow the adventures of a family of orphans as they struggle for survival in the harsh yet beautiful environment. The main problem facing them is how to raise money for an operation to buy a few more months for their sick brother. Work is scarce and difficult, and crime all around. Ian Douglas: Beautiful landscapes almost save this film. The story is well-meaning and obviously designed to tug the heartstrings, but it somehow fails to do so. The insight into the foreign culture is interesting, it makes one glad to live in a warm climate in a first-world environment.
