Synecdoche New York
Writer Charile Kaufman's (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Adaptation and Being John Malkovich) directorial debut Synecdoche (Sih-NECK-doh-kee) has had a mixed response, from confusion to high praise. The plotline is rather complex, as it involves a theatre director with medical and relationship problems, directing a play in a huge mockup of New York City. The play itself borrows elements from his own life, and soon there are multiple love connections between real people, other real people and the faux versions in the play. The film demands commitment from the viewer and most likely more than one viewing.
