Piñero

Piñero Benjamin Bratt stars in the true story of the turbulent and creative life of poet-playwright-actor Miguel Piñero. The Latino icon who after doing time in hard-core Sing Sing for drug dealing and petty thefts, turned his prison experiences into the 1974 Tony-Award winning play ''Short Eyes''.

This volatile urban poet's work is recognised as a precursor to rap and hip-jop, and a writer of hit TV shows. The resulting notoriety and fame was too much for this bad-boy genius and he retreated to the darker corners of New York City, where his life was cut short at the age of 40.
