Captain Corelli's Mandolin

Captain Corelli's Mandolin CAPTAIN CORELLI'S MANDOLIN traces a love that begins uneasily between Italian Captain Antonio Corelli (Cage), an irrepressibly fun army officer, with a passion for the mandolin, and Pelagia (Cruz) a strong willed ambitious young woman living on the Greek island of Cephallonia, during the second world war.

When Corelli and his company of men arrive to occupy the island, they think of their stay as a kind of Grecian holiday full of wine women and song! At first Pelagia and the villagers resent these uninvited guests, but the Italian's charm and passion for life wears away the differences of nationality, and Pelagia comes to see Corelli for the man he is: full of love for life, love for his music, and love for Pelagia herself.

John Madden (Shakespeare in Love) directs Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage (The Family Man, City of Angels) and Penélope Cruz (Blow, Women on Top, All About My Mother) in Captain Corelli's Mandolin, an epic tale of enduring hope, of love, and the devastating brutality of war, set against the backdrop of World War II.
