Early 1970s - escaping grey Londen and a failed relationship, a beautiful young woman, Julia, takes her two daughters, six year-old Lucy and eight year-old Bea, off to Morocco in search of adventure - 'something better than before'. She is brave and curious, and ambitious for them all, and a single mother's life in a one-room flat in South Londen isn't all she wanted to give her children.Lucy and Bea run free in the colour and life of Marrakech, but the city offers less freedom to a penniless mum seeking the meaning of life. Julia's struggle is transformed by the charming and feckless Bilal, who captivates them all. But her adventurous freedom has a price, and eventually she is forced to recognise what she has learned, about herself and about the search for happiness.
