False Pretense
Devastated by the sudden loss of his beloved ex-wife Katie, Smoke (Eric Roberts) must now struggle to adjust to having sole custody of his troubled son (Tierney). The bitterness Adam fells towards his father makes it impossible for the two to bond. Smoke's troubles are compounded when he is confronted by Maggie Furness (Eliza Roberts), an aggressive and attractive young investigator, who tells him that Kaie's death appears to have been a murder. Unbeknownst to Smoke, Maggie targets Adam as her prime suspect, and during her interrogation, she instills such fear into the rebellious teenager that he runs away in terror. With both father and son the target of a city-wide investigation, Maggie is torn between her sense of duty and her feelings of loyalty towards Adam and Smoke.
