The Immigrant

The Immigrant
Set in the early 1920s, two Polish sisters set off for New York in search of a new life. When they reach Ellis Island, doctors discover that one of them is ill, and the two women are separated. The other sister is released onto the mean streets of Manhattan while her sister is quarantined. Alone, with nowhere to turn and desperate to reunite, she quickly falls prey to a charming but wicked man who takes her in and forces her into prostitution. Luckily his cousin, a dashing stage magician, arrives and restores her self-belief and hopes for a brighter future, becoming her only chance to escape the nightmare in which she finds herself.
