This film, based on a short story by Edgar Allan Poe, was also released overseas as 'Stonehearst Asylum', Set at the beginning of the 20th century, a young medical school gradute takes a position at a mental institution and soon finds himself taken with a beautiful colleague... but he has no initial idea of a recent, horrifying staffing change. The young doctor is intrigued by his superindent's modern methods of treating the insane until a series of unusual events leads him to make a horrifying discovery, exposing the false utopia and pushing him to the limits of his conscience.
