A rather convoluted plotline which involves a young man discovering that he is the son of a wealthy merchant. Unfortunately the man dies before they can reconnect, leaving his wealth to his dog. The young man wangles a job looking after the dog, intendiing to kill it, but the dog is smarter than he is. Then some distant relatives of the deceased arrive and start plotting to kill the dog minder and outlive the dog ... which leads to all sorts of impossible situations.
