Set against the backdrop of a 100-year-old gang war, a fatherless thirteen year old boy has been raised by his grandmother on the Cape Flats. Life here is dominated by the 26 and 28 gangs. His future as a chess prodigy is threatened by his growing interest in the 26 whose local leader is grooming him as a potential member. When the father he's never known is released from prison, things get complicated as dad is a reformed general in the 28, and is now back in his old neighbourhood, which is 26 territory.
