Safe Haven

Safe Haven
Nicholas Sparks strikes again. When a mysterious young woman appears in a small North Carolina town, her sudden arrival raises questions about her past. Beautiful yet self-effacing, she seems determined to avoid forming personal ties until a series of events draws her into two reluctant relationships: one with a widowed store owner with a kind heart and two young children; and another with her plainspoken single neighbor. Despite her reservations, she slowly begins to let down her guard, putting down roots in the close-knit community. But even as she begins to fall in love, she struggles with the dark secret that still haunts and terrifies her ... a past that set her on the fearful, shattering journey across the country, to her current sheltered oasis.

Cape Times
Stephen Farber quote iconTwist shows no one is safe from plot devices.

ReelViews
James Berardinelli quote iconThe film isn't awful but it's tiresome in its relentless lack of originality. Sadly, that's precisely the quality that will draw 90% of its audience into theaters.

Rolling Stone
Peter Travers quote iconHow much do I hate this movie? Let me count the ways.

C. Fuchs quote iconSimply put, if you like the sort of romance, danger and, yes, death that routinely occurs in adaptations of Sparks' novels, this might be right up your cinematic alley. On the other hand, if you can't stand the melodrama, predictability and such that also usually populates those works, you might experience some sort of gag reflex.

Tomatometer quote iconSchmaltzy, predictable, and melodramatic, Safe Haven also suffers from a ludicrous plot twist, making for a particularly ignominious Nicholas Sparks adaptation.
