The day before her 18th birthday, a young woman disappears, apparently kidnapped. Her father hires an investigator to track her down. He discovers that she has actually run away with her boyfriend, desperate to be free on her birthday so that she can choose her own mate, while her father is equally desperate to prevent that from happening.
