The Campaign

May the best loser win.

The Campaign
This comedy takes a piercing look at the current state of American politics, and how big money is running the show. When a long-term congressman commits a major public gaffe before an upcoming election, a pair of ultra-wealthy CEOs plot to put up a rival candidate and gain influence over their North Carolina district. Their man is a naïve director of the local Tourism Centre. At first, he appears to be the unlikeliest possible choice but, with the help of unlimited financial resources, a cut-throat campaign manager and his family's political connections, he soon becomes a contender who gives the charismatic incumbent plenty to worry about.

Michael Rechtshaffen quote iconThe vote is in, and election movie is far from winning poll position.

James Rocchi quote iconThe great thing about The Campaign, is that it's weird and strange and surreal and passionate and dirty, a crazy-smart comedy where you laugh until it hurts — in no small part because a lot of it should.

ScreenIt
C. Fuchs quote iconDespite some decent laughs scattered here and there, the film begins to drag and feels long despite its somewhat abnormally short running time.

Tomatometer quote iconIts crude brand of political satire isn't quite as smart or sharp as one might hope in an election year, but The Campaign manages to generate a sufficient number of laughs thanks to its well-matched leads.
