Will Sloan quote iconPitched awkwardly between the semi-realistic comedy-of-embarrassment of Superbad and the slapstick surrealism of a direct-to-video American Pie sequel, I Love You, Beth Cooper is both too contrived and too clichéd to work as an effective coming-of-age dramedy

ReelViews
James Berardinelli quote iconI Love You, Beth Cooper is schizophrenic - two very different movies uneasily occupying the same space and time. One of them has promise; the other is annoying and off-putting. The filmmakers lacked the courage and conviction to tell an honest, character-based story and resorted to something that has been massaged into a more comfortable, easily consumable cinematic morsel. Too bad the inevitable result of ingesting this is heartburn.

C. Fuchs quote iconNot horrendous but clearly a pale, weak and unnecessary imitator of what Ferris Bueller did so many years ago.

Tomatometer quote iconHeavily reliant on stereotypes and shallow teen comedy clichés, I Love You Beth Cooper is a humorless affair that fails to capture the charm of its source novel.
