This romantic drama is set amongst the Jewish community in New York. A troubled young man is being encouraged to marry the daughter of old family friends, especially since said friends are about to buy his family's business, and it would be wise to ''marry their fortunes together.'' However he finds his vivacious new neighbour much more interesting, even overlooking her drug habit and extra-marital affair. As his family looks on disapprovingly, he is swept up on the winds of romance.
