Race to Witch Mountain

The race is on.

Race To Witch Mountain
Disney's second remake of a popular family movie from the 1970s is a special effects fest. Two aliens, disguised as young teens, materialise in the back of a cab driven by an ex-mob driver. Their flying saucer crashlanded on Earth, and they're on a mission to retrieve a special device vital to the survival of both Earth and their own planet. The cabbie is roped in to drive them to Witch Mountain, where the device is. Naturally the government is after the aliens, as well as another robotic alien, leading to lots of spectacular action and large plot holes.

Box Office
Wade Major quote iconKids with no connection to the original probably won’t care, but adults looking to recapture the magic of their childhood will find this patched-up pastiche sorely lacking and painfully dull, guaranteeing Disney a short but short-lived box office burst primarily from pre-tweeners and their reluctant parents.
5
Chicago Sunday Times
Roger Ebert quote iconYoung audiences will like the kids in the movie.

eye Weekly
Neil Karassik quote iconIn fairness, cynicism shouldn’t deter parents from enjoying an adequate movie matinee with their children. Just be warned that the film contains images that may upset unadventurous young ones, with chaotic car crashes, goofy gunplay and The Rock punching a lot of G-men square in the face.

ScreenIt
C. Fuchs quote iconWhile it's not awful, the offering is so pedestrian, not to mention lacking flair and finesse, that there's no real need to race out to see it.
