The World Unseen
In the pressure cooker of 1950s apartheid South Africa, two women meet and their worlds are turned upside down. A traditional young Indian mother, hardworking and self-effacing, meets a brash and rebellious young woman, who confounds the Indian community by driving a taxi and setting up a cafe with a local black man. This unexpected friendship turns the quiet one's world upside down as they end up fighting both the apartheid police and their own community.

Thamar Houliston quote iconAlthough the plot sometimes dwindles a little, The World Unseen is a poignant reflection of the old South Africa, and makes one realise just how far we have come...

quote iconAs it stands, it's not a great example of South Africa's film-making potential. It may be a better idea just to read the book.

Ulpha Edries quote iconThis is no mere struggle movie. It aims for the heart and hits its target. The World Unseen is deserving of the warm South African reception it has received, and will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on the local film landscape.

Kieran Grant quote iconIt’s just a shame when that unseen world where they meet falls away and the typical lovers-in-a-dangerous-time story takes over.
