You can take the Oscar this year if I can get it next year...
This biopic takes a look at how the US managed to help the Afghans chase the Russians out. The hero is a hard-drinking hard-womanising Congressman, who comes to learn of the difficulties the Afghan freedom fighters are having against the Russians. He pulls a few strings, and winds up meeting a CIA agent involved in supplying arms to the fighters. They come up with a plan to use weapons sourced from Israel, sent via Pakistan, to the fighters, paid for with secret CIA funds. Unfortunately their plan worked a little too well, as the freedom fighters went on to become the Taliban.
