The Jane Austen Book Club

The Jane Austen Book Club
A group of five women and one man create a club to discuss the six novels written by Jane Austen. As time goes by, and each book is discussed, we come to realise that the stories in the books are mirrored in the lives of the club members. Cape Times
Carina Chocano quote iconTuned to the pleasures of Jane Austen.
10
iAfrica.com
Lauren Scholtz quote iconErrs more on the side of syrupy than raw — a characteristic that places it firmly into the ''chick flick'' category.
15
The Citizen
Bruce Dennill quote iconA good dose of drama ensures that viewers should be able to empathise with the characters, thus experiencing something more significant than a couple of hours of flickering images.
15
24.com
Gugu Mkhabela quote iconLeave your expectations and assumptions at the door because this is one delightful slice of life imitating art.
15
BBC
Stella Papamichael quote iconThis film won't endure through the ages, but it can at least offer die hard Austen fans a little guilty pleasure.
10
Chicago Sunday Times
Roger Ebert quote iconI settled down with this movie as with a comfortable book. I expected no earth-shaking revelations and got none, and everything turned out about right, in a clockwork ending that reminded me of the precision the Victorians always used to tidy up their loose ends.
18
eye Weekly
Adam Nayman quote iconThe film pushes past tolerability into the territory of perfectly acceptable.
10
ReelViews
James Berardinelli quote iconAlthough the movie doesn't demand familiarity with Austen, it's hard to imagine anyone being attracted to film with this title unless they have an affinity for the 18th century writer.
13
ScreenIt
quote iconA strained, antic, loveless romantic comedy, where the end is ordained from the start.
