This film noir is set back in the 1940s, when the writer/director's grandfather was a cop. Together with his partner, they were involved in investigating a string of murders of war widows, by a charming and ruthless husband and wife team. They picked their victims from the ''Lonely Hearts'' ads in newspapers, hence the title. Hubby would charm the widow, while his wife would pretend to be his sister. After a while, once they had sorted out the financials, the widow would be exited stage left.
