Akeelah and the Bee
The 'Bee' in the title refers to the American spelling competitions. Our heroine is an eleven year old, in a problem family. She is advanced for her age, and her principal organises an old friend to coach her in spelling skills. As she progresses and gains community support, she has to deal with her family falling apart. New skills mean tougher competitions, which introduces some romance to keep her motivated.
