About a hundred years after Beatrix Potter burst onto the publishing scene and revolutionised childrens' books, her story comes to the big screen. As an unmarried 30-something from the upper end of society, she was something of an embarrassment for her parents, who wished she would marry. Then, when she managed to get a book published, which was just not ''done'' at the time, and started romancing her publisher, who was just not from the same class, her poor parents threw up their hands in horror. But she perservered with her dreams and decisions, even in the face of tragedy, and generations of children are grateful.
