This film traces the evolution of the CIA from the World War II Office for Strategic Studies. We follow the career of a young intelligence officer, as he moves from Yale University into the OSS and then into the CIA. This story forms a backdrop to his investigation into a damaging leak about the Bay of Pigs invasion in 1961. During the process, he ruins his marriage and fails his son. At the end he wonders if the sacrifices he made for his country were worth it.
