This is the companion film to Eastwood's ''Flags of our Fathers'', and tells the story of the battle for Iwo Jima island from the Japanese perspective. We follow a diverse group of Japanese soldiers, with different opinions about the coming invasion, as they prepare for the American landing. During the process, the men write letters to their families back home (which were never delivered), and these thoughts provided the insights for the film. Reviews have been mixed, gaining high praise from some and less from others.
