Based on the Broadway show based on the real-life story of Diana Ross and the Supremes, this musical is set back in the 1960s Motown era. A struggling female trio are taken over by an ex car salesman, who wants them as backup singers for a notorious male star. Pretty soon there are two romances going, but problems kick in when their manager switches his attentions to the third girl, making her the lead singer and his own leading lady. As they get close to the big time, this switch threatens to tear the former friends apart. The movie received several Oscar noms, including 3 for Best Song.
