An ex-Rhodesian mercenary becomes a diamond smuggler, and gets involved in the illicit diamond trade in Sierre Leone during their civil war back in the 1990s. While in prison, he meets a fisherman who knows of a large, rare diamond. Seeing opportunity, the men make a deal to help each other, and are later joined by an American female journalist on similar terms. They then try to find the diamond and the fisherman's family, while war rages around them. The film was mostly shot in South Africa.
