Clint Eastwood's latest drama takes a look one of the (for the Americans) defining moments of World War II — when the Yanks raised their flag on the Japanese island of Iwo Jima. Three of the men who raised the flag, and survived, were sent on a tour of the US as government propaganda. The film examines the effect of these events on the men concerned. There is a follow-up film coming (Letters From Iwo-Jima) which tells the Japanese side of the battle.
