A love-sick poet and lecturer is living in Rome in 2003, before the USA invaded Iraq. He lives in his own little dream world, hopelessly devoted to a fellow academic, who wants nothing to do with him. She is doing a biography of a leading Iraqi poet who wants to return home once Saddam is removed. This sets the scene for Benigni's lastest comic look at the horrors of war.
