This is the digitally-enhanced director's cut re-release of the 1992 film, based on the smash stage play. Sarafina is a young girl at high school in Soweto in 1976, who becomes involved in the student protests and riots at the time. The uprising was very violent, and was met with violence, as the students and government forces battled for control. The film is being re-released to mark the 30th anniversary of the uprising.
