A complex romantic comedy. Our hero is a young man deep in debt, and engaged. He decides to kill himself by jumping into the sea, but is rescued by two fishermen. They are also in debt, and sell him to cover their debts. To keep himself out of trouble, our hero pretends to be deaf and dumb (hence the title), but that gets complicated when he meets a new young lady... and her brother who is trying to get her married off.
