Hollywood rolls out yet another variation on the sports-underdog theme, this time set back in the 1970s, a time of roller skating and discos. After their local rink closes, a group of young black skaters head over to the white side of town to use their rink. This sets the scene for the showdown. Inbetween, our young hero is busy growing up, discovering girls, and trying to come to terms with his mother's death and dad's difficulty in finding a job.
