A new look at Shakespeare's classic, with an eye on modern school audiences. For those not familiar with the plot, a young merchant borrows some money from a Jewish moneylender, with a strict penalty clause. When he is unable to repay the debt, the Jew insists on the penalty, since the merchant had previously been nasty to him. This leads to a court case, where the merchant's lover puts in a surprise appearance.
