Set in the early 1900s, this Bollywood film takes the partition of Bengal and translates it to human interactions. A young widow arrives to be companion for a man's aging mother. He has a young wife whom he dominates. As things develop, and natural feelings bubble to the surface, the widow becomes divisive, while maintaining an air of respectibility.
