The Coen brothers remake a 1955 classic of the British comedy crime genre, with mixed results. They switch the action from London to the US south, where a smarmy crook takes lodgings near a riverboat casino, with the intention of robbing it. He and his crew are soon busy building a tunnel from the basement of the house to the casino's vault, but they hit a problem with their landlady finds out what they are up to. When bribing her doesn't work, they decide that they'll just have to kill her...
