Cold Mountain

Set in the dying days of the US Civil War, this is a tale of two young lovers both desperately trying to survive long enough to be reunited. He's a Confederate soldier who deserts and starts making his way back home to Cold Mountain. She's an educated but impractical minister's daughter, living in a community terrorised by a local tyrant. Through the people they meet, they both mature and fight for day when they will be together again.
