After an American officer becomes demoralised by his country's slaughter of the Native Americans, he turns to drink. He accepts an offer to go to Japan, to help train the Japanese army put down a rebellion by traditional samurai warriors. After being captured, he begins having discussions with his captor, a wise warrior.
