A coming-of-age tale for a poor little rich boy. In his late teens, Igby has been bouncing around various schools, and eventually absconds from his latest, a military academy. He heads for New York, where he does odd jobs while shacking up with a family friend's mistress. There, he gets into relationships with both the mistress and a confused student.
