Based on true events in Ireland in 1953, this film tells of a landmark court case which changed Irish law and partially broke the power of the Catholic Church in Ireland. After his wife walks out on him and his three kids, dad is devastated when the kids are taken away from him to be cared for by the church. He drinks too much, and Irish law did not allow for single dads to raise children. While drowning his sorrows, he falls for the local barmaid, who hooks him up with her lawyer brother. Soon, dad has a high-powered legal team, and the action switches to the courtroom. The kids, meanwhile, are doing their best to survive the grim institutional life.
